Description

General discussion and meetup area for work from home professionals. We can share ideas and information to help each other deal with the nuances of working from home. Please do not post WFH advertisements here - thanks!

I’ll go first to get this started and set the general theme of this circle:

I work in an industry (Finance IT) where people tend to work from home about one day a week. It’s still viewed as a perk and when I’m working from home I always appreciate it because I don’t have to commute and I actually get more done. One day during lunch I went outside in the yard for about 30 minutes and my bosses’ boss instant messaged me while I was out. When he found out I was WFH he was not happy. I vowed not to let that happen again and I searched for some solution. I recently found wfhhelper.com. This is an application that runs in your browser and moves your mouse for you. It also notifies you when you need to get back to your computer based on detecting screen changes. Lastly it shows you what you missed while you were gone. Now if the baby is crying or the delivery man comes or even if I have to hop in the shower I have nothing to fear. My status is always ACTIVE and if someone messages me my computer alerts me instantly. This tool is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Other than that my laptop is essential while WFH. The portability aspect is great. I find using a desktop at home is too restricting.

Hope this helps someone! WFH rocks!

  • Hi cm12; I'm pleased to make your online acquaintance. I don't mind your asking what I do. I'd like to ask you the same question!

I work as a Virtual Assistant and a self-proclaimed social media "Buzzmeister", A.K.A. a social media community manager. I WFH supporting authors and small business owners with their online presence. I also have an eBay side gig with DS Domination that I'm very excited about.

Here are my websites if you're interested in taking a peek: http://www.AllBuzzConsidered.com and www.ebSideGig.com

As for your question am I "finding any challenges while WFH in terms of connectivity or distractions?" I have to say only minimally. My two children are grown and doing their own thing so that is no longer an issue although I will say my husband is a college professor and as such he's around more often than most working spouses. He's probably my biggest distraction wink

So tell me a little about you. What do you "do"? Are you working from home? If so, what would you say your biggest issue(s) is(are)?

  • Hi - I, too, work from home in my part-time side gig as a means of "recession proofing" my future and that of my family. I love the flexibility that working from home allows.

    • That's a smart move. If you don't mind my asking what type of work do you do from home and are you finding any challenges while WFH in terms of connectivity or distractions?
